Baptism
Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word." (CCC 1213)
For parish members who would like to have their child baptized, please contact Fr. Dan at fr.dan@newmanec.com, well in advance of the date you anticipate for your child's baptism. The baptism of a first child requires the parents to receive some education on the sacrament and the ritual itself. Baptism may be celebrated either during a weekend Mass or following the Mass.
Adults who would like to be baptized go through a formation process called the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). Please contact Savannah Siegler, siegler@newmanec.com, for more information about OCIA.
Marriage
The marriage covenant, by which a man and a woman form with each other an intimate communion of life and love, has been founded and endowed with its own special laws by the Creator. By its very nature it is ordered to the good of the couple, as well as to the generation and education of children. Christ the Lord raised marriage between the baptized to the dignity of a sacrament. (CCC 1660)
Because sacraments are celebrated within a parish, we encourage couples anticipating marriage to celebrate this beautiful sacrament in the parish where one or both is registered and active. Often times for younger couples this will be the parish where their parents are registered. Exceptions can be made for those who have significant ties to Newman Parish to have their marriage prep done in their parish and the sacrament of marriage celebrated at Newman Parish. Inquiries about the sacrament of marriage should be done at least six months in advance of the anticipated date of the wedding. Contact Fr. Dan at fr.dan@newmanec.com for more information.
Anointing of the Sick
By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. (CCC 1499)
